Weekend Beer Buzz 08/21/2014

Another week, another two new breweries. Crazy times.

Here’s the rundown kids. Look for our man Greg doing work over at the inaugural Boulder Craft Beer Fest, watch for Scott who’ll probably be chasing around delivery trucks dropping off the first releases from New Holland and Southern Tier, while Mrs. Insane and I head South for the Rendezvous at the Rock. It’s what we do. Get out this weekend and share a beer with us.

Thursday, August 21th, 2014

Last week we share New Holland’s plans to expand their distribution into Colorado. On Thursday, you’ll have the opportunity to meet some of the New Holland team and sample Mad Hatter IPA, Dragon’s Milk Stout and Ichabod Pumpkin Ale at Freshcraft.

  • Opening, Zwei Brüder Brewing, Fort Collins, CO

Zwei Brüder Brewing opened their doors this week up in Fort Collins.

The new brewery’s founded by two brothers offering up German favorites and unique small batch creations. Zwei Brüder Brewing is located at: 4612 S Mason St, Fort Collins, CO 80525.

  • Pyrite Tapping, The Old Mine, Erie, CO

The Old Mine launched Pyrite earlier this week. Pyrite’s a 10.5% ABV Imperial Cider that was aged for 7 months in Breckenridge Bourbon Barrels.

“It’s like the apples went to Bourbon Heaven then returned to earth for us to enjoy.” Stop by The Old Mine to check out their outstanding selection of ciders and guest beers. The Old Mine is located at: 500 Briggs St, Erie, CO 80516.

  • Firkin Tapping, Comrade Brewing, Denver, CO

Comrade will tap a firkin of Double Dry-Hopped Session IPA on Thursday. This one’s been hopped up with Hull Melon hops from Germany, which are known to impart a fruity aroma. Comrade Brewing is located at: 7667 E Iliff Ave, Suite F, Denver, CO 80231.

Yak & Yeti just tapped their Imperial Barrel-Aged Saison (aged in Leopold Bros. Whiskey Barrels), along with Cinapple, a 5.1% ABV cinnamon infused apple ale. Head back to Yak & Yeti on Saturday, 8/23 at 3 PM for the release of Lavender-Warrior Imperial Saison, a 10.5% ABV Imperial Belgian Farmhouse-style beer infused with lavender.

The new brew’s a  collaboration with the Shelly Blais Yoga Studio (who hosts Yak & Yeti’s monthly Poses and Pints on the first Sunday of each month from 11-noon). Yak & Yeti is located at: 7803 Ralston Rd, Arvada, CO 80002.  303-431-9000.

Snowbank Brewing will have their Grand Opening in Fort Collins this weekend. Here’s a few of the beers to watch for.

Inclination IPA – bright tropical nose full of pineapple and grapefruit, flavors of sweet caramel and lemon zest with a spicy, resiny bite and gentle, lingering citrus bitterness.

Silent Snow White IPA – jasmine and orange blossom with a hint of spicy coriander on the nose, sweet hay and honey flavor with a creamy body and hint of a bitter orange peel finish.

Also look for Plateau Pale, Belgian Wheat, Pawnee Porter and more. The fun starts at noon. Snowbank Brewing is located at: 225 N Lemay Ave, Fort Collins, CO 80524.

  • Saison Tappings, Beryl’s Beer Co., Denver, CO, 5 PM

Beryl’s Beer Co will launch a pair of Saison’s on Friday. Stop by to try Elsie, alongside Elsie Mae, which is a variant aged in white wine barrels. Don’t miss your chance to try the Saison Sisters.

The 2nd Annual Rendezvous at the Rock is set for Saturday at Rockyard Brewing down in Castle Rock.

This is another Colorado Brewers Guild event and more than 30 breweries have signed on, including Crooked Stave, Black Bottle, Epic, Trinity and Former Future. Tickets start at $35 in advance and are $40 at the door. The fest runs from 1 – 5 PM, with VIP’s getting a jump start at noon. Rockyard Brewing is located at: 880 Castleton Rd, Castle Rock, CO 80109.

Tickets are still available for the Boulder Craft Beer Festival happening Saturday from Noon – 5 PM in beautiful downtown Boulder.

With live music, food and twenty breweries from Boulder county, you don’t want to miss the inaugural edition of this festival! Tickets are $30 ahead of time or $35 at the door with a $10 designated driver option that includes 5 non-alcoholic drinks and a $10 food voucher. Central City’s family-friendly brew festival is set for Saturday. 25 breweries have signed on for this year’s event, including Epic, Grimm Brothers, Cannonball Creek, Barrels & Bottles and more. While admission is free, tickets for beer samples (which are unlimited) begin at $30, but will go up to $40 at the gate, so grab yours before you go. There’s also a VIP upgrade available for $75, which includes entry at noon, appetizers, a VIP tent and casino comps. The event will feature live music and a variety of street vendors. Freshcraft will tap a keg of Firestone Walker’s Sucaba during this week’s Rare Beer Saturday.

Sucaba’s a delicious 13.5% ABV English-style Barleywine, that’s boozy, oaky, rich and malty. A truly lovely beer that doesn’t come around too often. Tapping set for 1 PM. Freshcraft is located at: 1530 Blake St, Denver, CO 80202.

River North will re-release their Rum Barrel Quandary on Saturday at 1 PM.

The 10.2% ABV Belgian Quad is described as “sweet, spicy and decadent, Rum Barrel Quandary balances the sweet malts of a Belgian-style dark ale with the sharp kick of new world spirits.” River North will have the beer available on draft and in 22oz. bombers to go. They’ll also tap a small amount of last year’s batch. River North Brewery is located at: 2401 Blake St, Unit 1, Denver, CO 80205.

  • Fight Fire With Beer Festival, Sculpture Park, Denver, CO, 2 – 6 PM

The 3rd Annual Fight Fire With Fire Beer Festival is coming up on Saturday. The event is part of Firefighter Appreciation Week and is a fun competiton / tasting in the beautiful Sculpture Park. Tickets are $35 for unlimited pours and $5 for a single pour. Grab your tickets HERE.

The Colorado State Fair will host their annual Foam Fest on Saturday evening. More than 40 Colorado breweries will be on-hand to dish out samples of some of your favorites from around the state. Tickets are $30, which includes a tasting cup, samples and the opportunity to watch the awards ceremony. Come out and cheer on your favorite brewery. Beer Hunter’s Report

  • A bunch of Mikkeller MAD series (bitter, salt, sour, sweet, umami) and Forêt series (Forêt de Tronçais, Forêt du Centre, and Forêt Limousine) beers have hit.
  • A bunch more have hit as well…so…many…Brouwerij de Molen/Anchorage Brewing Company Mud & Funk, De Molen/Narke/West B.A. Goths & Vandals, Panil Divina Sour Ale, Kerkom Kriek, Trou Du Diable Saison Du Tracteur, Timothy Taylor Landlord Bitter Pale, Thiriez/Get Radical Train To Mars Saison, Cambridge Audacity of Hops, and Anchorage/Prairie American Style.
  • New Holland is launching in Colorado!  Look for Dragon’s Milk Barrel-Aged Stout, Mad Hatter IPA, Sundog Amber Ale, Full Circle Kolsh, Monkey King Saison, and The Poet Oatmeal Stout. The Carhartt Woodsman, a collaboration with Carhartt, will be launched in mid-September.
  • Dry Dock Imperial Stout is already available from the tap room.  It should be hitting stores this week or next.
  • Southern Tier Pumking and Warlock are hitting this week and next.
  • The next installment in TRiNiTY’s Swingline series, Swing Se Pliser, is hitting right now.
